Diagnosis

Why does it take so long to diagnose?

There is no single procedure to diagnose MND. A doctor bases his diagnosis on the symptoms the patient shows. Also a neurologist examines the patient and tries to distinguish other neurological conditions. The tests used to find if a patient has MND are:
An MRI Scan is one way to find out if someone has MND

- An Electromyelogram (EMG) – Needles are used to measure the electrical activity of muscles.

- Nerve Conduction Tests - An electrical impulse is applied through a small pad on the skin, this measures the speed at which nerves carry electrical signals.

- A Tran Cranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) - This test measures the activity of the nerves that run from the brain to your spinal cord.

- A Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scan (MRI) - This test uses magnets and radio waves to produce images of the inside of the body.
